  • REACT™ - Real Time Extension

    REACT for Linux is designed for real-time solutions in demanding environments. An open source product developed by SGI engineers, REACT delivers hard real-time interrupt response time that has actually improved over that on IRIX. For real-time applications, interrupt response time is the time that passes between the instant a hardware device raises an interrupt signal, and the instant the system returns control to a user process. REACT for Linux contains significant new capabilities that allow SGI systems to sustain less than 30탎 interrupt response times.

    SGI also offers the following exclusive unique REACT for Linux features:

    • User Level Interrupts - allows interrupts to be serviced within a user's program, simplifying user level device control.
    • Frame Rate Scheduler - Makes it easy to structure a real-time program as a family of independent, cooperating activities that are running on multiple CPUs, and allows them to be scheduled in sequence at the frame rate of the application.
    • External Interrupts - Provides the ability to detect and process interrupts from external hardware devices.
    • Hi-resolution Timers - SGI hardware provides clock resolution capability of 50 nanoseconds.
    • Kbar - kernel barrier feature provides the ability to wakeup multiple threads simultaneously.
    • SGI Linux Trace - Debug kernel with the capabiity of generating traces for kernel events such as interrupt handling, scheduling and system calls.
    • sgi-shield - maximum isolation capability - eliminates jitter
